So I’m driving home yesterday, and stumble across Hannity on the way to sports talk. He has some caller on crying about how Obama is destroying small business. As I always do, I then go through the mental exercise of disputing his bullshit point by point – in this case, summarizing the list of all the small business assistance Obama has signed into law.
Well, I wonder what that propaganda head has to say about this?
From the article:
The private sector added 297,000 jobs overall last month, with almost all of the gains coming from companies with less than 500 workers. Those firms added a net 261,000 new positions during the month, ADP estimates.
The smallest companies -- those with fewer than 50 workers -- added 117,000 jobs. That's their biggest monthly hiring surge since February 2006, according to ADP's data. Over the past three years, as the recession ravaged the economy, those tiny firms cut more than 3 million workers from their payrolls
I realize this isn’t the official government jobs report, which comes out Friday. But it’s surely a good sign, partly because it’s unlikely this kind of hiring was holiday-driven. Further, it’s pretty clear Obama’s push to open up more SBA lending sits at the center of this, part of the wider action taken under the Small Business Jobs Act and the initial stimulus package. Prior to those moves, small businesses had nowhere to turn for credit. They don’t have the same options as corporations, who can always sell stock or bonds, while dabbling in the commercial paper market.
So Hannity can cry through his Atlas Shrugged prism as much as he wants. The reasonable among us will continue to cite dispositive facts.
