There is new evidence that Obama-bashing is really a limited foray.
According to a new CBS poll, Americans aren’t blaming him for the state of the economy, and they oppose Republican austerity efforts.
First,
"Who do you think is mostly to blame for the current state of the nation's economy: the Bush administration, the Obama administration, Wall Street and financial institutions, Congress, or someone else?"
Bush administration -- (28%)
Wall street, financial institutions – (22%)
Congress – (10%)
Obama administration -- (7%)
Someone else – (7%)
All of the above – (7%)
Combination – (14)
Unsure – (5)
So no matter how hard the wingnuts try to pin everything on the president, average Americans are pretty resilient in their reasonableness.
As for Republican austerity plans?
Which of these should be the higher priority for the nation right now: cutting government spending or creating jobs?"
Cutting Spending Creating Jobs Both
All 26 63 11
Republicans 48 41 11
Democrats 12 80 7
Independents 23 63 13
Wow. Look at independents.
This provides no reason to appease Republicans on any of their core agenda items (not that there would be an impetus anyway). The more the tea party “tiger” pushes them near the cliff’s edge, the more the entire party is poised to collapse under its own weight.
